The Cocktail Shaker
Boston-VS-European
There are two types of shakers, the European shaker and the Boston shaker. The European shaker is just a bit smaller. The main difference in the two shakers is,
1.The look of the two shakers are completly different
2.There is a built in strainer in the european shaker When you're done shaking the drink, the top comes off.
3.With the boston shaker you can build the cocktail the the glass, unless you are muddling fresh fruit.
4.The look of the boston shaker is for more slender in design.
The European shaker is easier to use when you start to learn cocktails but just isnt as impressive for shaking or flairing as the boston shaker.
As you use the Boston shaker, ice will form and seal the can and glass so a light tap of the site of the glass will release the two easily enough, for straining the bartender must fit a strainer over the top of the metal can to strain the cocktail into the pre chilled glass.

Also known as a tin, cocktail shaker or Boston shaker, a 28 oz. shaker is traditionally used to cap a mixing glass, beverage glass or work in conjunction with a 16 oz. shaker or our Mako™ shaker to shake or mix cocktails. This one has a reinforced bottom which is also known among flair bartenders as a weighted shaker. Because we cater to many flair bartenders, we offer a choice (weighted or non weighted "regular" shakers) as many have become accustom to one or the other. Same high quality stainless steel, standing 7 inches tall.

The 18 oz. shaker is used to cap a 28 oz. shaker much like the 16oz. The main difference is that the 18oz shaker sits higher inside the 28oz to allow for more liquid content inside the shaker.
