Different Types of Corkscrews

The T Bar Corkscrew:

A horizontal bar of wood attached to the screw, allows for a fine, strong grip making removal of the stopper very effective.

The Waiters Friend Corkscrew:

The waiters friend has everything that you could want behind the bar it includes a bottle opener and corkscrew, only draw back is that its not the most versitile, as you have to set the bottle on the table and possition the corkscrew correctly, although saying that you would never break the cork

The Lever Corkscrew

Many corkscrews incorporate levers that add more force when drawing the cork out, its design is a derivation of the gun worm which was a device used by musketmen to remove unspent charges from a musket's barrel in the same way.

Corks are largely associated with wine, although they are being replaced with screwcaps on a alot of wine bottles.

The earliest patent for a corkscrew was to a man called Samuel Henshall.
